Spieler ausführlich Auskunft über ihre Partien. Judit Polgar wirkte
nicht mehr so enttäuscht wie nach dem ersten Tag, obwohl sie wieder
keine Partie gewonnen hatte. Alexander Morozevich, der in der
entscheidenden Partie um den Einzug ins Finale gegen Anand verlor,
bedauerte, dass er die Variante nicht vorher mit seinem Computer
untersucht hatte. Dadurch konnte sich Magnus Carlsen, der gegen den
Russen zwei Mal zittern musste, ein lockeres Remis mit Weiß gegen Polgar
leisten, was ihn ins Finale am Sonntag gegen den Inder hievte. Somit werden Anand und Carlsen quasi das vielfach erhoffte Match "König gegen Kronprinz" spielen, doch auch das Duell zwischen Polgar und Morozevich um Platz 3 verspricht ein taktisches Feuerwerk zu werden. mehr

03.08.2008 - Der zehnmalige Sieger der Chess Classic, Weltmeister Vishy Anand, erreichte auch 2008 das Finale der 13. GRENKELEASING Rapid World Championship. Am Sonntag trifft er im Match über vier Partien auf Magnus Carlsen. Während sich das norwegische Wunderkind mit drei Remisen begnügte, musste Vishy in der dritten Runde des Tages in einem ersten „Endspiel“ gegen Alexander Morozevich zeigen, wie gut seine Nerven sind. Vor der letzten Runde führten Anand, Carlsen und Morozevich mit je drei Punkte. In einer zweischneidigen Stellung setzte der Weltmeister zu einem taktischen Schlag an, der ihm entscheidenden Vorteil brachte. Der Russe dürfte über den unglücklichen Ausgang sehr enttäuscht sein, da er sich zuvor mit einem Sieg gegen Judit Polgar und mit einer besseren Stellung gegen Carlsen empfohlen hatte. Er spielte exakt das Ergebnis des Vortages, aber drei Punkte reichten schließlich nur für das Match um den dritten Platz. mehr

03.08.2008 - Playing six tough rounds in the strongest rapid chess open tournament in the world is not everybody’s favourite pastime on a peaceful Sunday. And since many chess players don’t like to get up early to play chess at 10.00 AM, you could see many sleepy grandmasters and amateurs playing quick draws in the first round on Sunday to get some extra rest. But if you think getting up early to play a couple of chess games is tough, what about the triathletes who are competing in the City-Triathlon Mainz today? They started their competition at 10.00 AM as well: swimming in the Rhine, cycling and running through the city, passing the Rheingoldhalle which is packed with chess players moving pieces of wood on a chessboard.

Qualifying, however, was not that easy. Playing in the same hall with top grandmasters is very attractive for many amateurs and since 53 GM, 44 IM and 66 FM play the Ordix, there is a fair chance that you meet a top player over the board on the first day. After the first five rounds, there are still nine players who have a clean slate: Vaganjan, Movsesian, Najer, Almasi, Horvath, Tregubov, Jaracz, Horvath, Nepomniachtchi and Kosteniuk. 02.08.2008 - Yesterday we reported about the dramatic last round of the FiNet
Chess960 Open. After Hikaru Nakamura only scored a draw against
Vladimir Potkin, Arkadij Naiditsch from Germany had a great chance to
win the FiNet alone. He was a queen up and everybody waited for his
opponent Alexander Motylev to resign. However, there was one final trap
hidden in the position and Motylev gave it a final try. With only
seconds left on the clock, Naiditsch walked right into the trap and was

02.08.2008 - After a breathtaking last round in the FiNet Open, winner Hikaru
Nakamura was willing to answer a few questions to our video-reporter
Georgios Souleidis. He was not very happy with his games and he gives
inside information about the last three rounds. Due tue series of fast
and strong moves, he puts a lot of pressure on his opponents. Nakamura
also talks about chess in general and promises to play more often in
Europe in the near future. Well, since he won the Finet, he has to come

02.08.2008 - Mit dem Ordix Open begann heute um 12:30 die größte Veranstaltung im Rahmen der Chess Classic. 688 Teilnehmer bewerben sich um den Sieg des Turniers, der zur Qualifikation der GRENKELEASING Rapid World Championship im nächsten Jahr berechtigt. Unter den 163 gemeldeten Titelträger sind 53 Großmeister. Die Top10, unter denen sich Movsesian, Eljanov, Nakamura, Najer und Kasimdzhanov befinden, haben einen Eloschnitt von 2685. Die Hoffnungen der Deutschen ruhen auf Arkadi Naiditsch, der gestern durch eine unglückliche Niederlage in der letzten Runde des FiNet den Turniersieg verspielte.

02.08.2008 - After the first day of the GRENKELEASING Rapid World Championship Anand
& Co. had an animated discussion about the games in the daily press
conference. Anand explained some difficult variations in his usual
high-speed "Vishy-mode", but Magnus Carlsen looked tired after his
journey from Biel. Alexander Morozevich was happy about his win over
Judit Polgar, whereas the Hungarian superstar was obviously
disappointed about her two losses on the first day. You can see it all

02.08.2008 - The 7. FiNet Open ended with a triumph by Hikaru Nakamura. The American, who had qualified through the ICC Qualifyer, dominated the field right from the start. However, with two rounds to go, when he already looked to be a certain winner, he stumbled against Arkadi Naiditsch, lost, and allowed the German to catch up with him. When Nakamura did not achieve more than a draw in the last round everybody believed the German would win the tournament – after all he was a whole queen up. But in desperate time trouble Naiditsch ran into a mate in three moves. The keenly awaited encounter between Magnus Carlsen and World Champion Vishy Anand came early. The drawing of lots decided they had to play in the first round of four player double round robin. Es ist schwer zu prognostizieren, wer sich in diesem hochkarätigen Feld letztlich durchsetzen wird. späten Eintreffen aus Biel. Morozevich wirkte recht zufrieden mit seinem
Auftreten, da er immerhin Judit Polgar schlagen konnte, die wiederum
nach zwei Niederlagen zum Auftakt recht enttäuscht wirkte. Zum Abschluss
zeigte der junge Norweger, dass er trotz großer Müdigkeit zu Scherzen
